In Europe, the United States, Japan, and other countries, people have long been accustomed to flushing used toilet paper down the toilet. This practice is not only more hygienic, but also effectively reduces odors and bacterial growth. The administration promotes the “flush toilet paper down the toilet” policy to improve the quality of restroom environments, protect the health of users and cleaning staff, and further upgrade public hygiene.

The toilet trap is about 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter, and sewer pipes are even wider, at over 4 inches (10 cm). In addition, modern toilet paper is specifically designed to be flushed. Under normal use, it will not cause blockages. There is no need to worry about toilets in older buildings either. As long as drainage pipes are cleaned regularly and foreign objects are not discarded at will, even older plumbing can safely handle flushing toilet paper.

Not all paper can be flushed down the toilet. Choosing the right toilet paper and using it correctly is important. Toilet paper can be flushed because it is made of short fibers and is a dispersible paper product that quickly breaks down when it comes into contact with water, without blocking toilets or pipes. Toilet paper for bathroom use that meets the national standard CNS1091 can be safely flushed.

However, some common paper products and small items must never be flushed, including:

• Facial tissues, paper towels, hand-drying paper, wet wipes
• Sanitary pads, stockings, hair, plastics, condoms, cigarette butts, food waste, and other foreign objects.

These items are difficult to decompose and can cause toilet blockages and septic tank buildup, increasing cleaning and maintenance costs. Before flushing, check the labeling carefully. Only toilet paper with markings such as "flushable," the "Standard Mark," or the "Eco Label" on the packaging may be flushed down the toilet.
