Promotion of Polluted Land Revitalization and Reutilization

To accelerate the remediation of contaminated land, the 'Operation Directions for Zoning of Contaminated Land Improvement and Land Use Revitalization' were established on May 25, 2021. This initiative fosters inter- ministerial collaboration on state-owned and public land, complementing local governments' efforts.

Case Description

Utilizing the contaminated land in Dagang, Nantou, as a pilot project, a dedicated task force was established to spearhead the remediation and redevelopment of the site. Plans include the construction of public environmental protection facilities on this land. Revenue generated from the redevelopment will be channeled into the Soil and Groundwater Pollution Remediation Fund to support similar projects. This multi-faceted approach aims to achieve several key objectives: sustainable use of soil and groundwater resources, enhanced land value, and revitalization of the local community.

Future Outlook

Moving forward, this model of interdepartmental collaboration will be sustained through continued joint efforts between the central and local governments. Four key benefits have been identified, and the remediation of national and public contaminated lands will be prioritized. The government will collaborate to remediate pollution and transform these sites into valuable environmental protection facilities that serve the public good, promoting sustainable land use.

Four Benefits

Accelerated Improvement: Conducting thorough remediation assessments, implementing expedited site remediation, and Facilitating land reuse planning and development.

Fund Sustainability: Implementing robust investment strategies, maximizing return on investment, and establishing effective fund recycling mechanisms.

Inter-ministerial cooperation: Fostering strong collaboration between central and local environmental agencies to address environmental protection challenges at all levels of government, sharing resources and expertise to enhance environmental protection outcomes.

Economic benefits: Revitalizing the local economy by generating new revenue streams and stimulating industrial growth and job opportunities.
