Aug 9, 1983, the Water Pollution Control Institute and the Experimental Institute of Environmental Health are combined to form the Environmental Protection Bureau.
1988 Jan 15
Jan 15, 1988, the Environmental Protection Bureau is upgraded to become the Department of Environmental Protection.

Between 1988 and 1991, cities and counties establish individual environmental protection bureaus as local competent authorities for environmental affairs.
1999
July, 1999, due to the adjustments of jurisdictions and organization of the Taiwan Provincial Government, jurisdiction for the bureau is reassigned to the Environmental Protection Administration (EPA), Executive Yuan; the bureau is renamed the EPA Office of Central Taiwan.
2000 Feb 2
Feb 2, 2000, president promulgates the "Soil and Groundwater Pollution Remediation Act;" the Soil and Groundwater Remediation Fund is established.
2002
March 2002, the office is reorganized as the EPA Inspectorate, under which there are North, Central, and South Taiwan Inspection Teams.
2022 Jan 1
Jan 1, 2022, the EPA transfers affairs including general waste management, environmental health management, "Salute to the Seas—the Coastline Cleaning and Maintenance Program," "Natural Disaster Response," and "Disease and Disaster Prevention Contact" to the EPA Inspectorate; the North, Central, and South Taiwan Inspection Teams jurisdictions of regional environmental management, local Environmental Protection Administration affairs guidance, and environmental crime investigation and law enforcement are reformed to become the Northern, Central, and Southern Centers of Environmental Management.

May 24, 2023, announcement and formulation of the "Organization Act of the Environmental Management Administration, Ministry of Environment".
2023 Aug 22
Aug 22, 2023, the Waste Management Office (general waste policies) and the Soil and Groundwater Remediation Fund are reformed and upgraded to become the Environmental Management Administration (EMA); the Recycle and Reuse Program and environmental impact evaluation and supervision affairs are reassigned to the Resource Circulation Administration and Department of Environmental Protection respectively.
