2025 Outstanding Public Restroom Evaluation Results
Public restrooms are one of the public services in our daily lives; whether they are clean not only affects user comfort but also reflects a city’s image. To encourage all entities to elevate public restroom quality, the administration organized the “Outstanding Public Restroom Evaluation Event” in July 2025. The hope was that through competition and commendation, more public and private sectors will be driven to invest, making public restrooms no longer just “necessary facilities,” but public spaces where people feel at ease and comfortable.
The 2025 Outstanding Public Restroom Evaluation opened for nominations and registration from all sectors in July. Following written reviews and experts’ on-site assessments, plus nationwide voting from Sept. 1 to 30, experts and the public jointly selected their ideal high-quality public restrooms. The process balanced professionalism and user experience, making the results more credible.
Two Major Improvements in the 2025 Public Restroom Evaluation- Expanding corporate participation: in 2025, evaluation targets were expanded to include department stores and chain hypermarkets to continuously encourage businesses to provide high-quality public restrooms.
- Optimizing gender-friendly restroom indicators: based on the “Gender-Friendly Restroom Multiplication Action Plan” proposed by the administration, evaluation indicators were revised based on principles such as single-stall design, clear signage, safety facilities, and wide entrances/exits.
In 2025, 62 public restrooms participated in the competition, with 40 advancing to the second stage of on-site evaluation. Ultimately, 25 outstanding public restrooms, three distinctive public restrooms, three outstanding cleaning units, and five outstanding gender-friendly public restrooms were selected. The event attracted over 310,000 votes, indicating high public attention to public restroom quality.
The award-winning public restrooms in 2025 were distributed across various venues. The “Transportation Stations” category included the TRA Nangang Station, Taichung MRT Jiushe Station, Songshan Airport, and Taichung Port passenger terminal. The “Tourism and Recreation” category was won by the Xiaoyeliu Visitor Center and Kouhu Visitor Center. The “Local Government Recommendation” category included Daan Forest Park, Sanmin East District Kaohsiung Industrial High School Public Multi-Story Parking Lot, and the Yunlin County Government Department of Culture and Tourism Library. In the “Enterprise Provision” category, CPC Waipu Station, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Tainan Ximen Store, and Formosa Chiayi HSR Avenue Station stood out.
The distinctive public restroom awards also showcased creativity. For example, Taipei MRT Zhongshan Station’s theme centered on antibacterial restrooms to elevate users’ sense of safety and comfort; Mingjian Township Nursery Ecological Park displayed nature and childlike charm with painted walls; and Ximen Red House actively promoted gender-friendly concepts while balancing the maintenance of historical architecture. The administration emphasizes that public restroom quality is not just about facility improvement but requires joint maintenance by all citizens. The high-quality public restroom evaluation not only showcases results but also serves as a promotion to make everyone more conscious about properly using and caring for public facilities.
