From dialogue to action: leading a new direction in environmental governance
To bring environmental policies closer to the needs of the public and align with international trends, the administration held the “Environmental Management Administrative Strategy Development Direction Workshop” on Nov. 19, 2024, inviting 15 experts and scholars from different fields to join administration colleagues in discussions, exchanging views on issues ranging from waste treatment, sanitation worker care, public restroom management, cigarette butt pollution, and AI smart monitoring of illegal dumping.
Through a roundtable discussion, participants spoke freely on various environmental issues encountered in daily life. Topics ranging from how to make household waste treatment more energy-efficient and carbon-reductive, how public restrooms and streets should balance aesthetics and cleanliness, to safety and working environment upgrades for sanitation workers, all underwent enthusiastic exchanges and discussions. Participants also focused on the role of technology and education in promoting environmental protection, sharing many creative concepts, such as combining short videos, stage performances, or competitions, to pass environmental concepts to more people, and even using waste to create musical instruments, making environmental education more interesting and closer to the public’s daily life through musical performances.
Director General Yen Hsu-ming said that these exchanges will become important nutrients for promoting sustainable environmental management in the future and inject more creativity and direction into environmental education and international cooperation. The administration will continue to listen and maintain dialogue to build a clean, safe, and sustainable Taiwan.
