Every year on Oct. 25, Taiwan celebrates “Sanitation Worker Day,” a holiday dedicated to all sanitation workers across the nation. These workers work tirelessly throughout cities and towns, in scorching heat or pouring rain, always on the frontlines to maintain environmental cleanliness and safeguard public health. To express gratitude for their hard work and dedication, the Ministry of Environment (formerly the Environmental Protection Administration) established this special day to honor all sanitation team members with the highest respect.

Though sanitation work may seem routine, it forms the foundation of urban life. Daily garbage collection, recycling, environmental cleaning, and pest control all depend on the steady professionalism of sanitation workers. Their efforts keep our streets clean and communities healthy, protecting the unseen quality of our lives. Establishing Sanitation Worker Day not only affirms the importance of their work but also reminds the public to value it. A clean environment is not a given — it is the result of countless sanitation workers’ sweat and effort. Every sweep and lift contributes to a better city.
