Report major environmental pollution to receive rewards

Pollution reporting and reward system turns action into impact

To encourage the public to report illegal pollution activities found in their surroundings, the administration and local environmental protection agencies have each established reward regulations. A portion of the fines imposed for verified pollution cases is allocated as reward money to citizens who report such incidents.

According to the administration’s “Guidelines for Rewarding the Public for Reporting Pollution Cases,” citizens who report major pollution or cross-regional environmental crimes that are later verified by the Ministry of Environment’s audits (inspections) or supervision may be eligible for a reward. Cases that meet any of the following criteria qualify: if the confirmed fine (including recovered illegal profits), illegal income as defined by prosecutors’ filed charges or independent request for confiscation, and confirmed air or water pollution prevention fees to be recovered reach NT$100,000 or more. For cases referred by the ministry and its subordinate agencies that result in prosecution (including deferred prosecution), rewards are granted in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Local environmental protection agencies also set their own reporting reward rules and payment procedures. To apply for a local reward, refer to “Public Nuisance Petition Information > Public nuisance petition services > Reporting incentives" for regulations or contact the local environmental protection agency directly.
